Problem Statement
The MA-14 Bridge is on County route 6 (west front street and Amboy Avenue) in Monmouth County. The bridge connects the borough of Keyport with the township of Aberdeen and spans over Matawan Creek. Bridge MA-14, was originally constructed in 1915 as a movable bridge and sometime in the late 70’s early 80’s pinned together, which made it a fixed-span. The structure is 271 feet long and approximately 36 feet wide. The deck consists of a steel open grid deck with three of four spans being 70 feet 4 inches long and one span 60 feet long between bearings. The original substructure consisted of concrete encased H-piles at the piers and a pile supported concrete abutments. By the National Bridge Inventory, the original bridge was considered functionally obsolete and structurally deficient. Our plan is to redesign the bridge for a 100 year lifespan with minimum to no maintenance required in between. |
